Hi, I’m Steven.

I was late to discover the joy of working with clay. It wasn’t until March of 2019 that I first sat down in front of a wheel and attempted to throw my first piece (a bowl, naturally!)

Since then, my fascination with ceramics has become an obsession. I love everything about the process: Using my hands to shape wet clay, trimming and refining the form with texture and surface decoration, applying glaze, and then finally using intense heat (upwards of 2000 °F) to create an everlasting object fit for purpose.

While the majority of my work is done on the wheel using traditional methods, I also love finding innovative ways to incorporate new technologies into this ancient art form. By using 3D CAD & CAM software like Fusion 360 and processes like CNC cutting and 3D Printing, I am able to carve out forms for slipcasting or create textured stamps and molds that would be impossible to do by hand.

While I am largely a self-taught potter with no formal education in ceramics, I am indebted to the potters and ceramicists who’ve shared their knowledge online and in workshops. My goal in life—and in pottery—is to always be a learn-it-all, not a know-it-all.
