I’d like to give you a preview of the new Bawaiian Short we’ll be releasing soon. The one shown above is in the dark indigo floral print, and the fabric is really beautiful in person. Click the link to download the .AI file, and you’ll find it all set ups for use with a line art version, a solid color fill, and a colored up version that is like the one shown above. You may need to right-click or option-click and select "save as."

Use it as a platform to create your own short design for the Betabrand Think Tank, for design school, your career, or personal development. If you find these flats useful, please let me know! I love seeing how people have used these in their work.

The New DARPA Softshell Jacket by Steven B. Wheeler

The DARPA Softshell Jacket from Betabrand

The DARPA Softshell Jacket from Betabrand

When the original DARPA Hoodie was released by Betabrand back in 2010, the press coverage it received was enough to put the funky San Francisco-based clothing company that I now work at on my radar. So it was a huge honor to be asked to work on the redesign of the latest version and to transform it into the high-performance technical outerwear garment that it is today.

With a new fleece-backed softshell fabric that sheds rain while still allowing sweat to evaporate and pass through a microporous membrane, a heat transfer logo, pop color trims and contrast lining, plus an updated fit, this evolved version of the DARPA hoodie is something I am very proud of. Like the original, the seams are engineered using algorithms developed for use at the United States Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) by Saul Griffith. Each of the 12 main fabric panels nest tightly together on the cutting table, greatly reducing the amount of fabric used during production.
